We are improving our infrastructure and moving to AWS

Announcement

As Destwin continues to grow, we are mindful of the need to improve scalability and to provide customers with a fast, secure cloud platform. With that in mind, Destwin is migrating its primary datacenter from a traditional datacenter to Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon’s premier cloud hosting platform. Many factors contributed to the decision, but primary among those were Security and Resiliency.

AWS is widely recognized as a premier provider for best in class, scalable and high-performance cloud hosting, allowing for reliability and redundancy at a scale that no competitor can match. In addition, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is certified as a PCI DSS 3.2 Level 1 Service Provider, which is the highest level of assessment available.

Hosting the Destwin Fuel Dealer Solution on AWS will provide an unsurpassed level of security, performance and scalability that will readily support future growth and deployment of new features to our customers.

Beginning in mid-July 2020, we will begin migrating our customer data to AWS and plan to have all customers migrated by the end of September 2020.

Service disruptions are expected to be minimal and will be essentially transparent to end users. Migrations will occur in phased batches so only those customers that are being migrated on a particular day will be affected. Migration will be strategically scheduled to take place only during off-peak hours to ensure as little customer disruption as possible – most will not even notice.

Please see below frequently asked questions from our clients.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Will our monthly fee increase as a result of this service upgrade?

No.

2. Should I expect any service interruption?

The final migration after we synchronize the data does involve some downtime. From experience, this outage ranges from 5 minutes to 30 minutes. Because of this all migrations will be scheduled during off peak hours. Every effort will be made to minimize the amount of time that the website itself is down.

3. Is there anything the client needs to do on their end?

There will be some firewall and backend server changes for datatransfer connections. Our clients' technical contacts will receive additional instructions prior to the specific migration date.

4. Is this migration to AWS necessary?

Yes. This migration will assist with PCI-DSS compliance and provide greater flexibility for managing system resources to better server our clients. It will also provide better reliability in the event of unplanned outages.

5. Will the migration to AWS affect the Destwin Connect mobile application?

The Destwin Connect Mobile App will not change as a result of the migration. Our app connects to the clients' FDS portal for account information and configuration settings. Because of this, if the portal is not accessible the app will also not generate data as well.

6. Will the migration to AWS affect the integration with our backend system or payment gateway?

Yes. A separate technical email will be sent with the specific addresses and settings that clients will need to accommodate.

7. Will there be any observable effects to us or our customers due to the migration to AWS?

Before the migration, there will be a brief period of slowness on the database response when the databases are synchronized into the AWS servers. This will be done off hours (late night or weekend). There will be downtime when the actual migration occurs ranging from 5 minutes to 30 minutes, as noted above.

8. Will I need to make any DNS/IP updates as part of the migration to AWS?

No, as long as a client has no unusual internal DNS setup there should not be anything additional needed.

9. Will user and/or customer logins and/or passwords change as a result of the migration to AWS?

No.

10. Will the SSL certificate for clients be transferred to the new server?

Yes.
